Every night I sweat for daybreak / And every day I shrink from light (1995)
I can’t relax on purpose –
suppose my heart a klaxon;
decibel intolerable,
a squalid debasement, a cell.
The morning’s too close to sleep,
so keep inhaling morose
indelicate aspirations,
respirations inelegant.
